New South Welshman Andrew Hoy competes on old nags
Andrew Hoy was born on February 8, 1959 in New South Wales, Australia and he has represented Australia with distinction in 3-day-eventing for six Summer Olympics making his possible inclusion, at an age of 49, in the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games his seventh occasion.
The 2008 Summer Olympic equestrian events will be held in Hong Kong next year at a time when the weather is hot, humid and also prone to torrential downpours, lightning and typhoons.
The conditions will require riders that are tough and experienced and similarly horses that are just as tough.
There are eight Australians in the top twenty of the FEI eventing rider’s world ranking list 2007 and although Andrew Hoy was number one in 2006 and is number 5 in 2007 his best mounts, that have had distinguished past records, may find the conditions tough next year in Hong Kong.
Major Horse Trials and 3-day eventing in the next few months may give a guide as to which Australian riders and their mounts will represent Australia in Hong Kong 2008 and competitor that he is Andrew Hoy will be wanting to be one of them.
