Bettina Hoy a top rider from United Kingdom
Bettina Hoy nee Overesch was born November 7, 1962 and is a top-level equestrian rider representing Germany in Eventing competitions while married to Andrew Hoy another top Eventer representing Australia.
Bettina competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics and also the Athens 2004 Olympic Games where she will always be remembered as the rider who on performance won the individual eventing gold medal but controversially lost it on a technical breach.
At Athens she finished the Three-Day-Event as the best overall rider but with controversy centered around the clocking of the final phase. The end result was that Bettina Hoy received 12 penalty points, the gold medal was stripped from Germany and the place-getters each moved up one place.
The applause was deafening when team Germany won the Aachen 2006 World Eventing Championships and signaled a rise in the standing of the German Eventers so that they are looking strong for Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
