Massey Equestrian Center brings team New Zealand World Class Facilities
Elite equestrians in New Zealand will benefit from a world-class Massey University support team and free access to campus Equestrian Centre for their horses while studying for their degree and training to complete at the highest level in equestrian events.
Team Massey will pool from their own academic staff equine experts in nutrition, physiotherapy and eventing as well human sports performance experts to develop the health and skills of both the horses and the riders accepted into the programme.
Sophie Wigley and Sam Taylor are two young equestrians accepted into the programme and are recipients of the Prime Minister’s scholarships for supporting elite sportspeople by paying academic fees and a living allowance.
Veterinary and equine science lecturer Dr Chris Rogers came up with the concept of Team Massey after learning of the difficulties experienced by past students studying at Massey University then driving hours to train.
Team Massey supporters are to be congratulated for their pragmatism and generosity in pooling their talents for the benefit of elite equestrian students in New Zealand.
